| Toileting | Day dryness common; night varies | Withholding with constipation — medical review |
2. ECCE & NEP foundational stage (India) (a)/(b)
India’s NEP frames ages ~3–8 as foundational. Quality early childhood care and education (ECCE) emphasises play, language-rich interaction, and socio-emotional skills — not worksheet mills for 3-year-olds (a)/(b).
Anganwadi / private preschool choice: prioritise safety ratios, outdoor play, and respectful discipline over English-only branding (b).
3. Emotion coaching & discipline (a)/(b)
Preschoolers test limits to learn them. Authoritative style (warm + firm) outperforms authoritarian harshness and permissive drift (a). Time-in / calm-down spaces beat isolation shame. See Parenting approaches.
Sibling arrival often lands here — prepare with books and protected one-on-one time; Co-parenting.
4. Body safety & consent culture (a)
- Correct anatomical words
- Bodily autonomy in hugs (“ask first”)
- Safe vs unsafe touch; trusted adults list
- No forced secrecy
This is prevention education, not fear-mongering.
5. Screens & media (a)/(b)
Prefer co-viewing, no devices in bedroom, no screens as default emotion regulator. Watch for content that normalises cruelty or appearance obsession.
6. Nutrition, oral health, activity (a)
- Limit sugary drinks; fluoridated toothpaste smear/pea size by age
- First dental visit by ~1 year or when first tooth erupts if not done
- Daily active play; outdoor time supports sleep and mood
Growth charts: Child health.
7. Sleep (a)
Many drop naps by 5; protect 10–13 h total sleep opportunity including nights. Consistent wind-down; avoid caffeine (cola/tea) (a).
